Reflective Statement on Teaching Philosophy:
How do I view myself as a teacher?
How do I believe students learn another language best?
What will I try to accomplish with my students?
- Personable: friendly and engaging
- Like things to be interesting
- Want to be better, more interactive, but struggling with past examples
- Heavy on the visuals, media, audio
- Insecure about quality of lessons/activities in lessons
- Tend to disregard "uninteresting" rote memorization and other tasks in favor of what I like
How do I believe students learn another language best?
- Being engaged with a variety of learning styles
- Not with rote memorization
- By being interested and engaged
What will I try to accomplish with my students?
- Learn English while also having fun most of the time
- Provide real life context
- Teach life skill English, survival English, as well as regular English
- Early age: Proficient enough to leave ESL and succeed in mainstream classes
- As age rises: More skills for school, BICS and skills for content area classes
- Prioritize what needs to be taught based on the time I will have
